455. Prayer of St Thomas Aquinas for Grace

Grant me, O Lorp, con- tinually to lift up my heart towards Thee, and to bring sorrowfully to mind my many short- comings with full pur- pose of amendment. Make me, O Lorp, obe- dient without demur, poor without repining, chaste without stain, patient without murmur, humble without pre- tence, joyous without frivolity, fearful without abjectness, truthful without disguise, given to good works without presumption, faithful to rebuke my neighbour without arrogance, and ever careful to edify him by word and example without pretension. Give me, O Lonp, an ever c watehtüb Beopts which no subtle specu- lation may lure from Thee. Give me a noble 39? digna affectio: da rectum, quod nulla seorsum obli- quet sinistra intentio: da firmum, quod nulla fran- gat tribulatio:da liberum, quod nulla sibi vindicet violenta affectio. Largire mihi, DowINE DEus meus, intellectum te cognoscentem, diligenti- am te quzerentem, sapien- tiam te invenientem, con- versationem tibi placen- tem, perseverantiam fi- denter te expectantem, et fiduciam te finaliter amplectentem. Da tuis pcenis hic affligi per poeni- tentiam, tuis beneficiis in via uti per gratiam, tuis gaudiis in patria perfrui per gloriam. Qui vivis et regnas DEUS per omnia seeculaszeculorum. Amen
